THE PROBLEM:
Strings lose their resilience and tuning pins become loose.
Piano strings have a life of about 40 years. By this point, the bass strings have lost most of their "punch" or brilliance and may sound tubby and a little dead. Treble strings develop "false beats" or other imperfections and can no longer reproduce beautiful bell-like sounds. We always replace tuning pins with a re-stringing to insure long-lasting tunings.
Loose tuning pins are a common problem with older pianos and replacing them with larger ones is the proper fix. This is the perfect time to replace strings too, the two go hand-in-hand.
The cost varies depending on the size of the instrument, but runs from about $4000 - $5000, which includes delivery to and from our shop.
